Tallaght Town U14 girls claim maiden title

TALLAGHT Town FC’s first girls football team have been crowned DDSL Under 14 Division One champions in their maiden competitive season having completed their entire campaign unbeaten.

Under the management team of Alan Merriman, Mark Quinless, Holly Johnson and Mark Brassel, the club’s oldest girls team finished the season top with 20 wins and two draws.

Over the course of the season, the ever-impressive Adriana Borgas helped propelled the ’Town to the title after bagging 28 goals from centre forward.

Similarly, Erica Mooney also had a profound impact in defence while the likes of captain, Kacie Redden came up trumps when they needed her most.

Indeed, she bagged two late crucial goals against challengers, Peamount United to all, but guarantee the league title in May With a panel of 17 players, the squad has a great level of competition that they can build on.

“This is the first girls’ team that was set up in the club,” Merriman told The Echo.

“I set them up when they were Under 8s, and we have seven girls teams now here in Tallaght Town.

“This side is really leading the way for the other girls teams coming through.

“Our Under 11 and 12 teams are over in Holland playing football and the Under 12s are pushing for the league now as well.

“It’s significant for the younger teams as well that they can see the girls winning the title. It is a fantastic achievement for this group and for the club.”
