Essential works on Luas Red Line will disrupt services

THE Red Line Luas between Red Cow and Tallaght/Saggart will be off the tracks again this weekend due to essential engineering works.

In a public message issued, Luas confirmed that no Red Line trams will run between Red Cow and Tallaght/Saggart on Saturday, June 11, and Sunday, June 12.

On these dates, trams will run only between the Red Cow and Connolly/The Point.

A replacement bus service will serve the closed stops between Red Cow and Tallaght/Saggart, with some restrictions. Buses will run every 15 minutes (approx), with a valid Luas ticket is required to use the replacement bus service.

Replacement bus stop locations between Tallaght and Red Cow will be at the following Luas stops; Tallaght; Hospital; Cookstown; Belgard; Kingswood and Red Cow. Customers travelling between Saggart and Red Cow can get a bus at Saggart Luas stop; Fortunestown; Cheeverstown; Fettercairn; Belgard; Kingswood; and Red Cow.

Due to Limited bus set-down areas, the replacement bus will not stop at Citywest Campus Luas stop.

Commuters are advised to use the bus stop at Fortunestown Luas stop, which is an eight-minute walk away.

Temporary restrictions to the Red Line Luas were also in place last month, when trams between Red Cow and Tallaght/Saggart stopped for a weekend in May due to works.

When contacted by The Echo, a spokesperson for Luas operator Transdev said: “Luas is undergoing a series of rail replacement works on both the Red and the Green Lines.

“These works, scheduled for this year, normally involve a weekend shut down in the affected areas with replacement bus services feeding the temporarily closed Luas stops.

“These asset renewal works are essential for network upgrading and will increase the longevity of the Luas network.”

The Luas Green Line will run as normal this weekend, with the Red Line back on track from first tram on Monday, June 13.
