TCC mark key milestone of 10 years holding events in Tallaght

TALLAGHT Community Council (TCC) marked a key milestone of 10 years holding events in Tallaght to mark the national An Taisce Spring Clean campaign last month.

For people or groups who might not have a few hours to spend litter picking or for large jobs like removing graffiti, the #2-Minute Street Clean is a perfect way to mark An Taisce Spring Clean at a time that suits you.

When you are out walking your dog, going to the bus or the shops, take a bag with you and spend two minutes picking up some litter from the street or your local park.

Then deposit that in the nearest bin, remembering to recycle any cans or plastics if possible. This year, TCC again encouraged people of all ages, and groups across Tallaght to do a #2 Minute Street Clean or hold a community spring clean in your corner of Tallaght during National Spring Clean.

TCC members carried out seven #2-Minute Street Cleans across their corners of Tallaght from Saturday, April 23 to Saturday, April 30.

All ages were represented from seven to a little over 70 on these TCC clean ups. Every litter pick counts – and a combined effort during one week in April yielded a positive impact in litter reduction in Tallaght again to mark the national Spring Clean.

“We are delighted to see a continuous increase in groups and individuals who regularly litter pick in their corner of Tallaght.

“National Spring clean month was no different and we were delighted to carry out seven litter picks ourselves as a committee over a one week period.

“Every litter pick makes a positive contribution to a cleaner environment here in Tallaght.

Give it a go, it’s very rewarding,” said Peter Daly, TCC member.

TCC are also delighted to announce, a new Tallaght village Tidy Towns campaign will be launched very soon to focus on the village area and begin to tackle the graffiti, litter, areas of maintenance in the historic village now that the Covid-19 restrictions are behind us.

“Our village is an important place, full of history and character. It does however need a strong focus to improve some of the public areas.

“We intend to focus on that this Summer as a committee and invite businesses and residents to get in touch and importantly to get involved.

There will be litter picks and larger projects to get involved in, something for everyone,” said Liz Kennedy, Chair of TCC.
