Teen misses court to attend Cork Jazz Festival
A TEENAGER accused of dangerous driving missed court so he could attend the Cork Jazz Festival, Tallaght Court has heard.
The 17-year-old, who has an address in Tallaght, is charged with dangerous driving and with trespass at locations in Tallaght on January 11, 2017.
He was accompanied in court by his mother.
Judge Patricia McNamara noted that the teenager had not been in court the previous week as he had gone to Cork.
She asked him: “Did you go to the jazz festival”.
He replied: “Yes, I went with my uncle.”
Noting that the teenager was charged with dangerous driving, Judge McNamara asked what was alleged.
Sergeant Michael Ahern said it will be alleged that at 11.30am on January 11 last, the gardai had observed the teenager driving at high speed on a road in Tallaght. He said it will be alleged that the teenager abandoned the car and attempted to make his escape by going into a house. He said it will be alleged that the teenager was later apprehended.
Judge McNamara accepted jurisdiction.
She remanded the teenager on continuing bail for three weeks for a plea or a date for hearing.
