Teens who crashed on Kylemore Road after Garda pursuit were carrying offensive weapons

Three teenagers who led Gardai on a chase through the city on Thursday before being arrested in Ballyfermot were carrying offensive weapons, it has been revealed.

The incident occurred at rush hour when the car the three teens were in refused to stop when prompted to do so by Gardai on Bridgefoot Street in Dublin 8.

The vehicle eventually crashed on the Kylemore Road, damaging other vehicles, and causing traffic chaos for many in the area.

In an update issued to Echo.ie from Gardai, a spokesperson said the three youths, all aged in their late teens, fled the scene of the accident, but were quickly arrested.

When arrested the youths were in possession of what Gardai have described as “offensive weapons”.

In a statement a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí at Pearse St in Dublin attempted to stop a car on Bridgefoot St, Dublin 8.

“The car failed to stop and was followed by Gardaí through the city. The offending car crashed into a car while Gardaí were following.

“The car drove into a number of districts and it eventually stopped on the Kylemore Rd, Ballyfermot.

“Three youths fled the car but were arrested a short time later. All youths are are in their late teens and were arrested by Gardaí for possession of offensive weapons and dangerous driving.

“They were released from custody and a file will be prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
