Firhouse Educate Together is to move to temporary accommodation on the site of Firhouse Community College

In May 2020, the Department of Education announced the acquisition of a 4.45-acre site for the school on the Old Court Road.

The permanent school building project for Firhouse ETSS is being delivered under the Department’s Design and Build Programme.

The news of the upcoming move for the school in a statement that was published online by local TD’s and representatives for the area, stated: “A planning application for interim accommodation for the school on its permanent site was lodged on the May 26, 2021 and instructions have issued to the Project Manager overseeing the delivery of the interim accommodation to proceed with the procurement arrangements under the Department’s new Modular Buildings Framework.

“The intention is to move Firhouse ETSS to its permanent site as early as possible in the coming school year when that interim accommodation is ready.”

According to the statement, there was a delay involved in obtaining a necessary legal consent from a landowner in order to lodge the application, therefore the department is putting in contingency arrangements for the school to be located in accommodation at the Firhouse Community College site from August 2021 for a maximum of one academic year.

The contingency accommodation to be installed on the Firhouse Community College site for the beginning of the 2021/22 school year is being transferred from another school site in North Dublin.

The  accommodation on the site will include 12 general classrooms, two science rooms, one science prep room, two offices, two class base SEN suites, one art room and one staffroom.

Works are due to commence on the site as soon as school finishes its leaving certificate exams at the end of June.
