The Left Hook: Was this Tallaght motorist in the right or wrong?

It seems the daily disagreements between motorists and cyclists will never end, and while we try to remain as balanced as possible here at Echo.ie, we do like to highlight certain issues like this when they arise.

For many the term ‘left hook’ will mean little when it comes to road usage, but for those on bicycles the term describes an instance when a motorist speeds up to overtake a cyclist before having to immediately slow down so they can turn left.

The action usually leads to the cyclist having to check their path and swerve out into the road to avoid the car that has slowed down.

The latest example of this dangerous action comes from Tallaght, with the cyclist in question having to take care as the motorist accelerates and then instantly brakes to turn left up the Kiltipper Road.

Posted by avid cyclist, The Jolly Guitarist, who uses a GoPro to capture most trips on two wheels, the video has already drawn a huge reaction from both those who think the motorist did little wrong and from those who believe the cyclist was put in danger because of the actions of the driver.

What do you think?
