Playing Doctor Joe O’Loughlin in the new ITV show ‘The Suspect’ is former Walkinstown resident and Clondalkin native Aidan Turner.

The actor attended St Mac Dara’s Community College in Templeogue and Firhouse Community College before graduating from Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin in 2004.

Turner’s character has a perfect life as a psychologist with an amazing family, high media profile, and a publishing deal.

Though, his life starts to be questioned when his opinion is needed for a case where a young woman was found in a shallow grave in West London cemetery.

The actor said that he is “thrilled to be taking on the complex and demanding role of Joseph O’Loughlin, a man with so much to give but so much to lose, and a hidden darker side”.

Based on Michael Robotham’s novel, ‘Suspect,’ the five-part series is a psychological thriller that will be filmed in London in autumn 2021 and released in 2022.

The production will be produced by Natasha Romaniuk and specific episodes will be directed by James Strong and Camilla Strøm Henriksen.

Turner’s successful career has included his performances as Kíli in ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy, Ross Poldark in ‘Poldark’, and Leonardo da Vinci in Amazon Prime’s ‘Leonardo’ series.

He has won a multitude of awards most notably in the categories of Best Male Newcomer, Drama Champion, and Best TV Actor.
