Thief ‘stole woman’s back pack by cutting the straps’

A mugging incident in Tallaght where a man cut a woman’s bag off her back has highlighted just how determined thieves are in the run-up to Christmas.

A woman in her 40s was allegedly mugged by a man armed with a knife who confronted her and stole her backpack by cutting the straps.

The incident occurred on the Maplewood Road in Springfield, Tallaght at approximately 10pm on Wednesday, November 29.

According to local reports, the victim lost her college work including USB sticks.

Confirming the incident to Echo.ie, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating a robbery from a woman in her 40s.

“The incident occurred on the Maplewood Rd, Springfield, Tallaght, on November 29 at approximately 10pm.

“A man allegedly armed with a knife confronted the woman and stole her back pack by cutting the straps.

“No injuries were received by the female and no arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.”
