Thieves target Lidl stores in two nights

TWO Lidl stores in the Dublin 24 area were robbed and had windows smashed overnight last week.
Lidl’s Main Road store in Tallaght was robbed and a window was smashed in the early hours of Monday morning, while the Ballycullen store was also robbed and had a large window smashed on Tuesday morning, June 19.

It is understood that a Barretstown charity box was one of the items that was stolen during the robbery of the Ballycullen store, while a quantity of alcohol was taken from the Main Road store.
Fine Gael councillor for Templeogue-Terenure, Brian Lawlor, who lives in Firhouse, told The Echo: “We really need to introduce tougher sentences for people who commit these crimes.
“It’s shameful that two Lidl stores in Dublin 24 have been targeted two nights in a row.”
A spokeswoman from Lidl Ireland told The Echo: “We can confirm that in the past week both Lidl Ballycullen and Lidl on Main Road Tallaght were broken into.
“We are liaising with the Gardai but as both robberies are currently under investigation we are not in a position to comment further.”
The spokeswoman added that both stores are now fully operational.
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told The Echo: “Gardai in Tallaght are investigating a burglary that occurred in a shop on Main Street, Tallaght, on Monday, June 18, 2018 at approximately 1am.
“Two males entered the shop and a number of items were stolen. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.”
When asked about the Ballycullen robbery, the spokesperson said: “Gardai in Rathfarnham are investigating a burglary at a premises at Beechdale Road, Ballycullen on June 18, 2018, at approximately 11.50pm.
“A lone male broke the front window of the premises, gained entry and removed a charity box. The culprit left towards Daletree Road.”
