Toastmasters enjoy an evening with playwright and poet Áine

CLONDALKIN Toastmasters welcomed the writer Áine Ní Ghlinn last Tuesday, April 16.

“So exciting to meet the lovely writer and journalist Áine Ní Ghlinn who joined us last Tuesday for an amazing evening!” the group said.

Áine Ní Ghlinn, is a bilingual journalist, poet, playwright and children’s writer, according to Clondalkin Toastmasters.

As Laureate na nÓg (Children’s Laureate), between 2020 and 2023, she was the first holder of that role to write exclusively in Irish.

Ms Ní Ghlinn has won a wide variety of awards for adult and children’s poetry, drama, and fiction, including several Oireachtas drama prizes.

She is also a recipient of the hugely prestigious Honour award of the International Board on Books for Young People and several of her works have won Irish Language Book of the Year awards.

In 2019, shortly before becoming Laureate na nÓg, she was awarded the Patrick Kavanagh Fellowship for poetry, according to Clondalkin Toastmasters.

Clondalkin Toastmasters meet on any first and third Tuesday of the month at 7.45pm in the Maldron Hotel, Newlands Cross.

According to their Facebook page the next meeting of Clondalkin Toastmasters will be on May 7.
