Speaking prior to the challenge, Stephen Halpin, one of the organisers of the fundraiser told The Echo:

“It is always good to raise funds for charity and for Pieta House. It is to raise awareness for mental health in our community.

“We are in tough times now and people are confined to their homes or can only go 5 kilometres, people are struggling working from home or have lost jobs so it seems an appropriate charity to raise funds for now.”

The fundraiser finished on March 7, and with over 100 donations the total amount of €3,000 exceeded the initial goal of €2,500.

Stephen Halpin showed his appreciation for the donations over the last four weeks: “Our 4-week challenge finished last week and that brings an end to our running for the Pieta House fundraising event with both the Round Tower junior mens and ladies teams covering 2021km each.

“Well done to all our players who got out running in all sorts of weather over the last 4 weeks.

“It is a tough time without matches or training as a group but it was great to see so many of our players out exercising. We would encourage all our players and the wider community to remain active during these Covid restrictions for their own physical and mental health.
