Tributes paid to ‘one of the most genuine men we knew’

TRIBUTES are being paid to a young man who died in Croatia, whom Rathcoole Football Club described as one of their best players and “one of the most genuine men we knew”.

Seán Brogan, 20, who lived in Kildare, had played for Rathcoole FC from the age of eight and remained loyal to the club, playing all the way up to its senior team.

He died tragically in the early hours of last Thursday, July 7, after falling from a wall in Queen Jelena Madijevka Gardens in Zadar, Croatia, while on holiday.

Seán had reportedly been playing guitar while sitting on a rampart wall in the park before he fell.

Tributes have been paid to the popular young man in recent days, including from Rathcoole FC, as he was a popular member of the club – his father, Paul, is also heavily involved in the club.

In a post on social media last Saturday, Rathcoole FC described Seán as a talented and well-liked member of the club, whose loss has dealt a devastating blow to his family, friends and clubmates.

“It is with utter heartbreak that I send this message. Seán was a much-loved member of Rathcoole FC since the age of eight and had stayed with the club throughout to the senior team,” the club said.

“Seán was one of our best players, but most of all he was a friend and one of the most genuine men we knew.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul, his father, who is also a key figure on coaching the senior team, his wife Úna and their daughter Jessie on the passing of Sean.

“May his gentle soul rest in peace.”

Seán is survived by his parents Úna and Paul, his sister, Jess, and his grandmother, Lucy.

In his death notice on rip.ie, Seán’s family wrote that he “will be forever loved and very sadly missed by his heartbroken parents, sister, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, neighbours, his wide circle of friends, and his four-legged pal Blue.”

Seán’s funeral Mass was held in Kilteel Church, Kildare, last Friday, followed by cremation in Newlands Cross Crematorium.

The Brogan family has asked that, if desired, donations can be made to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust HERE.
