Two men arrested after plastic explosives seized by Gardai in Dublin
Two men have been arrested this evening after what is believed to be plastic explosives was discovered in a vehicle they were travelling in by Gardai investigating the activities of dissident republicans
Officers from the Emergency Response Unit brought the van to a sudden stop in the Ballybough area around 6pm.
They discovered what is believed to be an amount of plastic explosives and detonators.
The surrounding area has been sealed off, and in the last few minutes the Army Bomb Disposal team arrived on the scene.
In a statement from Gardai, a spokesperson said: “As part of an ongoing operation into dissident republican activity Gardai stopped and searched a vehicle on Spring Garden Street, Ballybough in the inner city at approximately 6pm. this evening, where two men were arrested.
“The arrested men are being detained at Clontarf Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30, of the Offences against the State Act 1939 as amended.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
