Two men arrested in garda patrol car shooting investigation

*UPDATE – The two men arrested on December 1, as part of an investigation into a shooting incident which occurred on July 24, 2021 in the Rossfield Avenue area of Tallaght have been released, according to gardai.  A file will now be prepared for the DPP.

TWO men have been arrested after a garda patrol car was hit with shots fired from a handgun in the Tallaght area in July.

The first man, aged in his early 20’s, was arrested on Wednesday morning, December 1, and is currently being detained at Tallaght Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Gardaí arrested a second man, aged in his mid-20’s, as part of the investigation into the incident on Wednesday afternoon who is also being detained at Tallaght Garda Station.

The arrests is in relation to the shooting incident which happened in the Rossfield Avenue area of Tallaght in the early hours of July 24.

According to a statement issued by the Gardaí at the time, a marked Garda patrol car with unarmed uniform Gardaí was on patrol in the area when they came across three men – one in possession of a handgun and one in possession of a baseball bat.

A number of shots were then discharged by the male with the handgun towards the Garda patrol car, one of which struck the vehicle, and all three men then fled the scene afterwards. No Gardaí were injured during the incident.
