‘Txt 2 Connect’ wellbeing service for young people

WATCH:

A WELLBEING phone service for young people in South Dublin County, aged between 18 and 24, who are worried or stressed, was recently launched.

The ‘Txt 2 Connect’ service is being run by the South Dublin County Partnership, after they secured funding from the Children and Young People’s Services Committees (CYPSC) for the pilot project.

Young people can contact the service by texting 086 180 3942 and they will then receive a call back, during the course of which a wellbeing plan will be devised.

Alan Kavanagh from the South Dublin County Partnership, who is coordinating the ‘Txt 2 Connect’ project, told The Echo: “We’re targeting young people that are stressed, worried, feeling low or have anxiety, and who have a desire to make some changes.

“We help people to make small changes that will positively impact their wellbeing.”

People who text the service’s number can expect a call back from a wellbeing support worker, who will check in with them and help them to create a wellness plan.

The support worker will then have a pre-arranged 30-minute phone call with the young person each week to help them to adjust to and implement their wellness plan.

Mr Kavanagh has advised that the service is not an 24/7 crisis service and added that if you, or someone you know, is in crisis and needs support, please contact your GP or emergency service.
