Uncollected Christmas trees set alight near Spawell roundabout

Dublin Fire Brigade were called into action last night to deal with a large Christmas tree fire near the Spawell roundabout in Templeogue.

The area where the blaze occurred in Cherryfield Park was one of 22 locations designated by South Dublin County Council for Christmas tree recycling.

As reported by Echo.ie in December, arrangements had been made for free Christmas tree recycling at various locations throughout the county from Wednesday 4th January to Friday 13th January 2017.

A message from Dublin Fire Brigade said: “Earlier we attended a fire involving Christmas trees near the Spawell roundabout in Templeogue.

“2 fire engines from Tallaght & Rathfarnham stations attended. There was slight disruption to traffic.”

The council has been criticised this morning by some who believe the trees should have been collected ahead of the weekend.
