Unmanned Lucan petrol station refused planning

A PLANNING permission application for an unmanned petrol station in Ballyowen Castle Shopping Centre has been refused by South Dublin County Council.

As previously reported in The Echo, the proposal outlined the removal of 10 parking spaces in the Ballyowen Castle car park, which faced opposition from local residents who voiced concerns about the potential for increased traffic congestion in the area.

The council refused permission for the development on a number of grounds, including issues with traffic congestion, “visually obtrusive” signage and the overdevelopment of the car park.

Welcoming the decision, Lucan Fine Gael councillor William Lavelle said the refusal was: “A common sense decision.

“The proposal was for the petrol station to be in a car park with one entrance and one exit, in an area that’s choked with traffic.

“It simply did not make sense.”

An application for planning permission for a health centre and commercial building in the same car park was also refused earlier this year by the council.
