Viking themed state-of-the-art playspace is opened by Mayor in Corkagh Park

THE Mayor of South Dublin County Council Peter Kavanagh, officially launched a new playspace at Corkagh Park on Thursday.

The playground, which is viking themed in honor of the area’s history, reopened in November of last year after undergoing some renovations, reports Maddie Mueller.

Mayor Kavanagh grew up near the park in Clondalkin, so the opening of the playspace held a special significance for him.

“This is where I learned to climb, where I learned to fall, and most importantly where I learned how to get back up on my feet and try again,” he said in a video posted to the council’s Twitter account.

At the launch, Mayor Kavanagh thanked the local community and commended the work of the council in managing the project and maintaining the playspace as well as the rest of Corkagh Park.

He also highlighted the importance of outdoor play for children, saying: “Whether it is splashing in the water, running through the woodlands or sliding from the highest tower children need play experiences as part of a healthy active childhood.”
