Walk music project to perform live gig in Dublin City Centre
By Maurice Garvey
A MUSIC band modelled on inclusiveness are set to perform a live gig in Dublin city centre on May 1. The music project is derived from Walk, a Dublin 12 organisation that supports adults with an intellectual disability to lead self-determined lives.
The band Joyful Noise, was established by Walk facilitators Mark Hart and Dani Brown, who recognised a “significant love of music from a large number of participants” in their programmes.
“Sessions are lead and facilitated by professional musician Sinead White for 16 weeks culminating in a live performance,” said Mark.
“This is the third incarnation of the project, and this time around we have the backing and support of Dublin City Council's Dublin Culture Connects, whereby the group will be playing on a bill in the Sugar Club on May 1.
“We see the project as a way of contributing to wellbeing and personal development of the individuals that we support and have witnessed it’s multiple positive ripple effects.”
Joyful Noise will be supported on the night by Le Galaxie and BCFE rock school band Tunnel Vision.
Hart believes the gig offers an opportunity for individuals who would usually be marginalised to perform at a live event.
“It is important to highlight that whilst many of the members of the group access our service, it is open to all in the community and is attended by those with and without disabilities.”
“We hope that this positively contributes to a greater cultural shift for people with disabilities in the arts.”
