Walshe hits new heights in 2019 Irish Open C’ship
TEMPLEOGUE Swim Club star Ellen Walshe carded no less than four lifetime bests on her way to as many national titles in the Irish Open Long Course Championships.
Her tremendous run opened with victory in the Women’s 50m Butterfly after fending off new Irish Junior record holder Jena Macdougald by .01 in the final in which she raceed home in a time of 27.29.
Templeogue Swim Club’s Ellen Walshe recorded four lifetime best swims at the Irish Open Long Course Championships.
Walshe then cruised to her fourth straight 200m Butterfly National title in a time 2:14.42, a lifetime best for the Templeogue swimmer, as British Olympian Hannah Miley won Commemorative Gold in the event in 2:13.39.
She secured the National 400m Individual Medley title with a time of 4:51.04 that saw her finish ahead of Ards’ Amelia Kane and NAC swimmer Orla Adams.
The performance also qualified her for the Swim Ireland Transition squad that will compete in Croatia,
And she continued her impressive form with another lifetime best swim for the 100m Butterfly National crown.
The Templeogue swimmer edged closer to the Irish record of 1:00.21 with a time of 1:00.44 for her fourth title in this year’s Open and one that is inside the time required to allow her be considered for the World Championships in Korea in July as part of a Mixed Medley Relay team.
Meanwhile both Molly Mayne and Sean McNicholl have also been serving up some impressive results.
Both are coached in Dubai by Ash Morris, but swim domestically for Templeogue with the former having delivered consideration times for the European Youth Olympic Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan in the 100BS and 200BS.
McNicholl is also in contention for a spot on the European Junior team in Kazan, having posted impressive swims in the 100FC, 100BC and the 100BF.
