Water restrictions to ‘remain in place for one week’
By Mark Keane
Water restrictions are starting today across local communties and will run each night for a week from 10pm until 5am.
The night time water restriction, which Irish Water classifies as Level 2, is being implemented in an attempt “to protect future water supply for homes and businesses and avoid widespread outages in the autumn”.
Water restrictions will remain in place for one week, according to Irish Water
A Level 2 water restriction results in “low night-time pressures, but no loss of supply”, with Irish Water adding that there are “no current plans to go above Level 2 in the Greater Dublin Area”.
In a statement, Irish Water has listed the areas across the Dublin area being affected, with local communities on the list including Tallaght, Lucan, Clondalkin, Ballyfermot, Inchicore, Crumlin, Walkinstown, Templeogue, Ballyboden, Rathfarnham.
However, areas around major hospitals have been protected and their pressure will not be affected.
Irish Water Engineer and water conservation expert, Kate Gannon, said: “Introducing restrictions was an option that Irish Water hoped could be avoided because of the inevitable impact on homes and businesses.
“The decision to lock down the restrictions to these areas was not taken lightly.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and these restrictions will remain in place for one week and will then be re-assessed.”
