Weightwatchers Ireland is ending all workshops from end of December

WW IRELAND, formerly known as Weightwatchers Ireland, have announced that they are ceasing all workshops and other business operations on December 31, 2021 as WW International, Inc. say that they will “evaluate future potential WW offerings in Ireland”.

In a statement released by WW on their website, they said that there is “no timeline” as to when any WW offerings will resume in Ireland, but members are welcome to continue to engage with WW GBR Limited, which is an affiliate of WW International, to access digital tools.

The statement read: “WW International, Inc. is acquiring WW Ireland. In connection with this acquisition, WW Ireland is ceasing all Workshops (In-Person and Virtual) and other business operations (At Home) in Ireland as of 31st December 2021. Your WW Ireland Workshop membership will end on 31st December 2021.”

The statement added that members who already have an active digital account with WW GBR, that account will automatically be extended free of charge until March 1, 2022 and will also provide all members with a free digital pass to access the web-based tools until March 1, 2023.

The news comes as a massive blow for Weightwatchers coaches and leaders, with many posting online since the announcement speaking about their sadness and devastation at the news of the closure.

Weightwatchers has been running in Ireland in different communities for decades, with weekly meetings taking place in places such as Firhouse Community Leisure Centre, Brookfield Youth and Community Centre, Rua Red and have been holding virtual workshops throughout the pandemic.
