Wheelchair-bound Ballyfermot man up on sexual assault charge

A WHEELCHAIR-bound man sexually assaulted a woman on a bus in Neilstown, Blanchardstown Court has heard.

James Callaghan’s case will be kept in the District Court after Judge David McHugh accepted jurisdiction.

Callaghan, aged 33, with an address at Decies Road, Ballyfermot, is charged with sexually assaulting a named female on a number 40 bus on the Neilstown Road on February 1, 2016.

Sergeant Maria Callaghan told the judge that the DPP had directed summary disposal.

She said it will be alleged that on February 1, 2016, Callaghan was a passenger on a number 40 bus on the Neilstown Road in Clondalkin. Sgt Callaghan said it will be alleged that Callaghan placed his hand on a woman’s left buttock and exposed his penis to her. Judge McHugh accepted jurisdiction.

Callaghan was granted legal aid.

Judge McHugh remanded Callaghan on continuing bail for a month for a plea or a date for hearing.
