Judge Gerard Jones accepted jurisdiction to deal with her case at Blanchardstown District Court and remanded her on continuing bail in her absence.

Ms Wogan, aged 39, with an address at Meile an Ri Road, Balgaddy, Lucan, was not obliged to be present in court for the jurisdiction hearing.

She is charged with entering the hotel as a trespasser with intent to commit an offence once on April 12 and twice on April 21, 2020, as well as an unrelated count of theft at Spar, Ballyowen Shopping Centre, Lucan on March 22 last year.

Sergeant Maria Callaghan alleged that Ms Wogan and another person entered the hotel on the first date and went to a restricted staff area where they took towels and other items which they placed in a trolley before leaving.

Sgt Callaghan said staff “intercepted” them on this occasion.

On the later date, Ms Wogan allegedly entered the hotel again, at 5pm, and went to a restricted area.

According to gardai, she was disturbed by staff but returned later with another person and they took a number of items worth a total of €810.

It was alleged they hid the property in a container in the car park, but the items were recovered.

In the alleged shoplifting incident, Ms Wogan was accused of stealing €76 worth of groceries, the court heard.

Sgt Callaghan said the DPP consented to the charges being heard in the district court if the judge accepted jurisdiction.

Judge Jones said he was accepting jurisdiction and remanded the accused on continuing bail, to appear in court on June 3 and indicate how she intends to plead to the charges.

He granted free legal after Ms Wogan’s solicitor Simon Fleming made an application.
