Woodie’s owner begins search for new chair as Ian Tyler exits

THE Chair of the Grafton Group, which owns Woodie’s and Chadwicks, will step down from his role, the company has announced, a month after his BP hire.

Ian Tyler, the Chairman of the European multinational distributor of construction related products and solutions that owns the hardware and do-it-yourself stores based locally in Tallaght, Lucan and Ballyfermot, has decided to step aside “due to other commitments.”

The Grafton Group declared that the board of the company has commenced the process to replace Mr Tyler.

It stated: “The Board, led by Dr. Rosheen McGuckian, Senior Independent Director, has commenced a process to recruit a new Chair with the assistance of an external search firm.

“Further updates will be provided in due course.”

In September, it was announced that Mr Tyler had been appointed as the chair of oil giants BP, filling the permanent vacancy left by Templeogue’s Albert Manifold earlier this year.

Mr Manifold was removed from his role of Chairman and seat on the board at the company in May via unanimous decision after his appointment seven months earlier.

Mr Tyler had stepped into the role initially as Interim Chair after Manifold’s departure and he outlined his desires upon his appointment to the permanent position.

The BP chair and outgoing Grafton Group chair said: “I am honoured that the board of BP has appointed me as its chair. It has been a privilege to work directly with Meg O’Neill over the past few months and to see the impact she has had since her arrival.

“I will lead the board’s evolution, ensuring we have the depth, experience and capabilities needed to support the company’s strategic priorities and long-term value creation.
