THE construction of a new primary healthcare facility in Clondalkin has commenced.

The facility received planning permission in March 2021 and will see the existing health centre on the corner of Boot Road and Fonthill Road Street demolished to build new primary care facilities in Clondalkin.

The project of the new Primary Health Care Centre is deemed as ‘essential works’ by the HSE and will adhere to Covid-19 guidelines by the HSE and the Construction Industry Federation.

The construction of the centre will take place in two phases.

The first phase will see the site stripped, and demolition and excavation of the site will occur alongside the building of the basement facilities – including a total of 149 car parking spaces mostly at basement level.

The first phase of the development is expected to be completed in November 2021.

The second phase will consist of the main construction of the buildings and is expected to be complete by February 2023.

The services provided by the HSE to public patients from the new proposed Primary Care Centre include public health and community nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, dietetics and counselling.

There will also be HSE disability services for children and young people, with a new centre for a children’s disability network team.

In addition to these primary health services, the health care centre has been identified as a hub for the Enhanced Community Care Programme.

This programme aims to ease the pressure on the hospital system by delivering services in close proximity of client’s homes.

During the development, a considerate contractor policy has been put in place to ensure the minimum disruption to the neighbours of the construction site.

The policy will include an agreement that no heavy or noisy construction equipment or machinery will operate before 7am or after 7pm on weekdays and not before 9am or after 1pm on Saturdays or at any time on Sundays, Bank holidays or Public Holidays without written consent from South Dublin County Council.
