CONSTRUCTION on the long-awaited new North Clondalkin Library is anticipated to commence in August – with a now revised finished date set for December 2019.

Plans for the library have been proposed for some time.

In May 2017, South Dublin County Council envisaged the library to be completed by early 2019, with tenders to be issued last Summer.

In response to a question from Cllr Mark Ward at the recent area committee meeting, SDCC said tenders for the project are being issued this month, and they anticipate a start date of mid-August 2018.

Construction of the library at the junction of Liscarne Close and Oatfield Avenue/Park, is expected to take 18 months to complete.

Cllr Ward welcomed plans for further public consultation prior to the building of the new library.

“I am really pleased that consultation will take place with local residents to confirm that issues previously raised have been addressed in the tender, and to explain the arrangements proposed while construction is underway. It is vital that we get the community to buy into this project,” said Cllr Ward.

“Over the years North Clondalkin has been left behind when it comes to development of community infrastructure compared to other areas of our county.”

A spokesperson for SDCC said they would hope that given the quality of seven short-listed contractors that the timeframe for the project may be shortened.
