Workplace wedding and the groom rocked up as Elvis

A COUPLE recently got married in their workplace in Greenhills Business Park after their original wedding plans had to be cancelled because of the pandemic – and the groom even did a star turn as Elvis.

Martin Beirne, 53, from Bancroft in Tallaght, and Elaine McDonnell, 47, from Drimnagh, had originally planned to get married in Fuerteventura on July 1 in front of 100 guests, but their plans had to be shelved because of lockdown.

Instead, Martin and Elaine decided to get married in their workplace, DCI Energy in Greenhills Business Park on the date when their wedding was supposed to take place abroad, while a group of 30 close friends and family waited in gazebos outside.

Martin’s sister, Bernie, told The Echo: “We were all devastated that the wedding in Fuerteventura had to be cancelled, but the fact that they got married here instead was great and it meant that we all got to be a part of it.

“They got married in DCI, which Martin owns, because the registry offices were closed but there was a loophole where they could get married in a place of business.”

Martin rocked up to the venue dressed as Elvis, replete in a dazzling jumpsuit, a black wig and Vegas-style sunglasses, while Elaine wore a t-shirt inscribed with ‘corona bride – same man, different plan’.

“No one knows why Martin decided to dress up as Elvis,” laughed Bernie. “But it was brilliant.

Martin and Elaine had a great time at their wedding

“The wedding was really lovely, and we had a toast afterwards.

“It was great to be a part of it, it was very different. Elaine and Martin were devastated when they had to cancel their original wedding plans, but they were determined to get married.”

The couple, who live in Tallaght Village, are planning to hold another, more intimate ceremony on July 25 in their apartment with their close friends and family.
