Would-be thieves ram raid storage unit in Tallaght estate but leave empty handed

Would-be thieves used a car in an attempt to break into a storage unit in a Tallaght estate this week, but eventually left empty-handed.

The incident in the Belfry estate in Citywest happened on Monday night when the gang first tried to prise open the locks of the outdoor of the storage unit.

When this failed the would-be robbers used a car to ram the doors, but their attempts once again failed and they quickly fled the scene.

In a statement from the estate’s management company, residents have been warned to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to Tallaght garda station.

They said: “Our office has been notified of an attempted robbery in the Belfry last night (Monday, 06 February).

“It was reported that an attempt was made to prise open the doors of an external storage area and, when that failed, a car was used to try ram-raid them.

“Fortunately, despite their efforts, they were unable to gain access and nothing was stolen.”
