Xilinx €34 million major investment

IT WAS a good news week at US multinational technology company Xilinx, announced a major investment of €34 million in research and development, at it’s EMEA headquarters in Citywest and Cork.

The tech giant already employs 350 people in Citywest, but are recruiting 100 new staff for expansion in Dublin and Cork to cater for it’s Irish operations.

The development was formally announced in Citywest by Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald, and Kevin Cooney, Senior Vice President and Managing Director EMEA, Xilinx Inc.

The investment is supported by the Irish government through IDA Ireland.

Tánaiste Fitzgerald said the Xilinx investment “is a great vote of confidence in Ireland and, in particular, in the attractive eco-system we have created for companies in the ICT sector.”

Kevin Cooney, Senior Vice President, Xilinx, said: “Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will have a profound impact across a wide range of applications that impact society as a whole. Xilinx is uniquely positioned to accelerate the proliferation of these applications from edge to cloud.

“This investment by Xilinx in Ireland will fuel advanced product development and research that will enable ever more intelligent and efficient AI development and deployment.”
