The teenager, from Tallaght, had  pleaded guilty to simple possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis for sale or supply at a location in Tallaght on June 8, 2016.

Sergeant Michael Ahern told Judge Patricia McNamara that on June 8, 2016, an operation was being held in Tallaght to target the sale of illegal drugs.

He said that an undercover garda rang a number and arranged to purchase €20 worth of cannabis.

The teenager later turned up with the drugs at 2.10pm and was paid €20 for them by the garda.

The teenager’s solicitor, Michael Hennessy,  said his client was “not the target of the operation”.

He said his client had been given the drugs by another individual to pass onto the garda.

Sgt Ahern said the teenager had five previous convictions.

At Tallaght Court on February 24 last, he had received a conviction for simple possession of drugs.

Judge McNamara noted that the teenager had said he was “young and dumb” at the time of the offence in the probation report.

She placed the teenager on a six-month probation bond.
