Young entrepreneurs takes part in Bicycle Clinic Initative to promote green methods

YOUNG entrepreneurs from Lucan Community College took part in the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE) Bicycle Clinic Initiative to promote ‘green methods’ to travel to school.

The fifth year students Clodagh McDonnell, Jessica Power and Keelah Sisk were involved in the initiative at the school which is part of their project for the BTYSTE Exhibition that will take place this month.

The initiative is encouraging students to use travel methods such as cycling when going to and from school to be more environmentally friendly and decrease the amount of nitrogen dioxide which is emitted from car exhaust fumes and is a major source of pollution to the atmosphere.

The students’ project which has been accepted for the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition is entitled ‘How the Pandemic has Positively Affected the Air Quality in Lucan and What We can Do to Sustain these Levels’.

The school said: “We wish these students the very best of luck over the next few weeks as they prepare for the virtual exhibition in January 2022.

“They would like to thank all the staff and students at LCC for supporting their project and a special acknowledgement to Oran Fitton, James Talbot and Conor Walsh who assisted greatly in the servicing of student bicycles. Well done to all and thanks to teachers Ms. Healy and Ms. Walsh!”
