Zak stars for Ljays in Mugendo Open

ZAK RIDDELL starred for Ljays Elite Martial Arts at the Mugendo Open in Sligo last weekend.

The Tallaght competitor, who trains under coach Nico Duffy, was declared the ‘Athlete of the Tournament’ after he took gold in the 15-17 years 52kg Kick Light division before emerging victorious from the final of the Light Contact equivalent.

What’s more he fought Full Contact 54kg 3x2 in which he came up against Daniel Brady in the final, losing out in the last few seconds.

Sean Lynch, fighting Senior -95kg Kick Light won out in a straight final against Ferdia Grant before the latter avenged that loss with victory over the Ljays competitor in -95kg Light Contact decider.

Erin O’Hara made it as far as the semi finals in both the 10-12 Light Contact and Points Fighting 10-12 subsequently picking up two bronze medals.

Instructor Jake Riddell, fighting Seniors -74kg Kick Light, beat Jay Daniels after which he took silver in -79kg Light Contact, losing out to Brendan Kenny in the final.

Josh Riddell, in 10-12 Light Contact, battled his way to gold.
