SOUTH Dublin County Council’s plans for an €1.29m intergenerational centre at the Wellington Road end of Tymon Park have reached the public consultation stage.

The local authority lodged a Part 8 (public consultation) application for the plans on April 19.

The proposed development is to consist of a multi-use facility that is adaptable to community use. The design plans for the facility include a cafe, an associated kitchen, toilets, storage and services, while there is to be a terrace for outdoor seating overlooking the park.

The outdoor terrace is sheltered by a canopy, which can provide space for outdoor cinema and other events, including outdoor games, such as chess and scrabble.

A storage and services area is to be located to the rear, while four car parking spaces are to be replaced with an entrance forecourt and cycle parking to facilitate pedestrians and cyclists – and four existing designated parking spaces will be maintained.

The council said that the proposed facility, which would be managed by the council’s community services department, is designed for use by small and medium sized groups that require a flexible space.

These groups could include active age, parent and baby, Tidy Towns, resident associations, yoga, pilates and keep-fit groups, reading, knitting, bridge, historical societies and education groups.

The plans can be viewed by appointment only in County Hall, Tallaght for a period of four weeks from April 19, or online at http://consult.sdublincoco.ie, where online submissions can also be made until June 1.

Written submissions from the public can be made on the application until June 1 at 5pm to South Dublin County Council.
