SOUTH Dublin County Council anticipate Clondalkin swimming pool will be operating at full capacity within a matter of weeks.

In response to a question from Cllr Trevor Gilligan at the area committee meeting this week, SDCC said over €238k has been spent on repairs to Clondalkin Leisure Centre since the facility opened in 2008.

The local authority estimate pool repairs to cost €10k.

They confirmed immediate repair works will commence on the pool and a new annual maintenance contract has been entered into by the council.

Longstanding technical issues have affected the moveable floor at the facility, curtailing full availability of the pool for swimmers.

Boom issues at the Clondalkin pool were considered to be so complex last year, that SDCC required a UK dive team to fabricate and fit a “bespoke piece of equipment.”

Cllr Gilligan said: “This comes at a critical time when many swimmers were getting fed up and considering going elsewhere. However, I’m happy that these issues are laid to rest and hopefully the new maintenance contract will mean, should there be future issues, they will be rectified most urgently.”
