€6m costs incurred for illegal dumping and removing litter

THE removal of litter and illegal dumping cost South Dublin County Council over €6 million in 2014.
In response to a question by Sinn Féin Councillor Louise Dunne at the monthly ACM on Monday, the council released a detailed set of figures for litter and dumping costs from 2011 to 2014.
End of year figures have yet to be finalised for 2014, but it is set to be the most expensive year of the last four years.
Taking into account figures for illegal dumping, estate cleaning, litter removal, litter wardens, anti-litter campaigns and environmental awareness, the overall litter cost for 2014 is €7.2 million.
