Active South Dublin March Sports Team: Loreto Women’s Hockey Team

LORETO Women’s Hockey Team won the EYHL champions for the first time in over 15 years.

The Rathfarnham side had a brilliant season winning 15 matches from 18 games while drawing the other three games.

Loreto recorded wins over teams like Ulster Elks, UCD, Catholic Institution, Pegasus and Old Alex on their way to claiming the top prize.

Loreto won the title in March having beaten Ulster Elks by 4-1 and reaching 43 points.

Even if the Rathfarnham side lost all their remaining fixtures and second placed Railway Union won all their remaining fixtures including their game in hand the maximum they could get was 41 – so good was there season.

“It was a great month for us winning the EYHL League so we are absolutely delighted,” team captain Mia Jennings told The Echo.

“We last won it over 15 years ago, Hannah Matthews in our team won it back then, but none of us yet.

“We are looking forward now to the Champions Trophy at the end of April.

“So it’s a weekend event and a semi-final to look forward to”.
