Féile joy for St Mark’s U15s

THERE was Féile joy for St Mark’s U15s who lifted the Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Féile Division 10 crown after seeing off Innisfails 1-7 to 0-0, reports Ruth King.

The sun was at the highest point by the third game, with it beating down and not a breeze to be felt.

The St Mark’s side had a long way to travel from the far end of the southside, but that did not deter them from the exhibition they were going to show at Innisfails own home turf.

Both sides started off strong with Lauren Egan from Innisfails being a great menace to St Mark’s.

However, Abigail Byrne got her team going by scoring two points one after another, she was denied a goal by the Innisfails goalkeeper, Lauren Birmingham who made a great save to keep her team in the match at the early stages.

She was kept busy with another attempt on goal by Carli Deane of St Mark’s which was saved again.

However, Abigail Byrne scored another point, followed by her team-mate Layla Murphy booting it over the bar to put the Tallaght side ahead with a comfortable lead heading into halftime.

St Mark’s opened up the second half with a point from Layla Murphy, who wasn’t letting Innisfails have a chance.

St Mark’s Debbie Adesoye showed one of the greatest displays of a centre back that hasn’t been seen in a long time, she was piling on the pressure to the Innisfail forwards and not letting a single one past her.

Abigail Byrne had the referee busy putting scores into her notebook by adding another point for her side, along with Kiana O’Connor to extend their sides lead.

Innisfails didn’t give up even with the hot sun radiating down on all of those on the pitch, however, it wasn’t to be their day as Byrne for St Mark’s sealed the deal for her teams win with her shaking the back of the net with an excellent goal.

Both teams had stand out performances, but the St Mark’s team overall where the better side.
