Additional information requested on Lidl Belgard plans following concern from local residents

FOLLOWING the submission of a number of concerns from local residents, additional information has been requested on Lidl’s application for the demolition of the Belgard Inn public house and the construction of a new Lidl foodstore and retail unit building.

The application also includes the improvement of the vehicular entrance and exit, improvements to the footpaths and the addition of crossing points on the Belgard Road.

Among the concerns raised by residents were the loss of the Belgard Inn for the local community, the increase in traffic in the area and the boundary treatment to the west of the site that is adjacent to residents.

Other concerns raised included fears of anti-social activity in the area and the need for a demolition and construction management plan for the development.

In its request for additional information, South Dublin County Council said that there are a number of “serious concerns” with visual and residential amenity on the development.

It asked for clarification on boundary treatments and level changes on the site, and the re-location of an ESB substation.

Additional information about noise reductions was also requested, along with revised drawings to indicate the location of an off-licence area.

Further details on surface water and the watermain layout on the site are also requested, along with environmental consultancy on the waste in the old landfill on the site and the levels of methane.

The decision to request additional information was granted on May 13, with the additional information required to be submitted within six months or the application will be declared withdrawn.
