Adeleke continues dominant run in Irish sprint athletics

TALLAGHT’S Rhasidat Adeleke has surpassed yet another Irish athletics landmark after she broke the Irish 400m record on her way to a third-place finish for Texas University in the final of the Big 12 Championships.

The double European Under 20 sprint champion clocked a time of 50.70 to beat the previous national best of 50.73 that had been recorded by Joanne Cuddihy way back in 2007.

Adeleke did appear to be on the cusp of another major performance after having registered a PB of 51.70 just the day before her latest Irish record.

The 19-year-old Ireland international now stands as the nation’s fastest female athlete of all time at 60m, 200m, 300m and 400m.

Finishing behind team-mates Stacey Ann Williams and Kennedy Simon at last weekend’s race, Adeleke has taken another huge step forward after having made the move to the US on an athletics scholarship with the University of Texas back at the start of 2021.
