All-Tallaght battle for Irish Modified Rallycross crown

THE RACE for 2018 Irish Modified Rallycross Championship title all comes down to this Sunday with two Tallaght men Peter McGarry and Michael Coyne locked in battle for the prize.

The former carries a narrow four-point advantage into the closing round in Mondello Park and Coyne knows he may well have to win if he is to have a chance of overtaking on the final day.

Tallaght's Peter McGarry and Michael Coyne will be battling it out for the Irish Modified Rallycross Championship title

It is Coyne’s first full season back in the Irish Championship after five years away from the series after he moved to Australia where he became involved in re-introducing rallycross to the country.

He has enjoyed a huge amont of success in the sport, winning the Irish Championship back in 2001 and 2005.

McGarry, meanwhile, made a name for himself in Stockhatch racing and, incidentally, the car he now competes in was originally an incomplete project owned by Coyne who sold it to him before he left to go Down Under.

Both drivers have served up some exciting battles over the previous seven rounds of the series this year and many will be expecting a fierce derby battle on Sunday.
