Amazon generators disrupting residents

RESIDENTS of Colbert’s Fort on the Belgard Road are being disrupted by the use of generators “at all sorts of hours” as part of the development of an Amazon data centre at the former Jacob’s Biscuits Factory on the Belgard Road, according to a local councillor.

A spokesperson for Amazon confirmed to The Echo that a number of generators are currently in use at the former Jacob’s Biscuits Factory site, however these generators are temporary and are scheduled to be removed by October.

Fianna Fail councillor for Tallaght Central, Charlie O’Connor, submitted a question at last week’s Tallaght Area Committee meeting asking the council’s chief executive to present a report “responding to the recently expressed concerns” of Colbert’s Fort residents in relation to the generators being used at the Amazon site.

Cllr O’Connor told The Echo: “The generators are on at all sorts of hours and they’re keeping the residents awake – I’m pursuing this issue on behalf of the residents.

“I want the concerns of the residents to be dealt with effectively.”

In response to Cllr O’Connor’s question, South Dublin County Council said that they had received no complaints from Colbert’s Fort residents, but Cllr O’Connor added that he believes that the council’s environmental department are processing a complaint at present.

A spokesperson for Amazon Web Services told The Echo: “We are aware of the neighbours’ complaints, we’re investigating it and we take it seriously because we want to be good neighbours.”

South Dublin County Council were contacted for comment, but they did not respond in time for print.
