Public meeting on the ‘deferred’ upgrade to the N81

Public meeting on the ‘deferred’ upgrade to the N81

By Mary Dennehy

ELECTED representatives and residents of South County Dublin are invited to attend a public meeting this evening on the stalled upgrade of the N81.

The upgrading of the N81, which is to incorporate Tallaght to Hollywood Cross in Wicklow, has been deferred, with users of the route and those living along it becoming increasingly concerned about the amount of road traffic accidents.

N81 use

For a number of years, Kildare County Council, Wicklow County Council and South Dublin County Council have been working together on developing a scheme to improve the 27km N81 from the Embankment in Tallaght to Hollywood Cross.

Despite a preferred route corridor decided on two years ago, funding for the upgrade has not been allocated – with this evening’s meeting hoping to impress on local politicians and Government the urgent need for this upgrade.

The public meeting is on tonight (Monday), April 30, at 8pm in St Kevin’s Hall, Main Street, Blessington.
