Amazon sets out plans to build a fourth data centre in Tallaght

AMAZON has submitted a planning application to South Dublin County Council to build a data centre on the former Barretts warehouse site in Greenhills Business Park in Tallaght.

The application submitted by ADSIL (Amazon Data Services Ireland Limited) outlines plans to demolish the 4,658 sq m existing industrial buildings, ancillary outbuildings and structures, to make way for the new data centre.

Amazon purchased the site of the nearby former Jacobs biscuit factory in 2015 where they are currently building a data centre.
This follows the tech giant’s acquisition of the Shinko Microelectronics site in 2014, which is located in Greenhills Industrial Estate in Tallaght.

The former Shinko site is adjacent to a former Tesco distribution centre, which is also being used as a data centre for Amazon, and this brings the total number of Amazon data centres in Tallaght to three.

If Amazon’s planning application for the former Barretts warehouse site is successful this will be Amazon’s fourth data centre situated in Tallaght.

The proposed works on the former Barretts site will not affect boundary structures including railings, fences and gates.
A decision is due from South Dublin County Council on February 24.
