Decision expected on classroom extension in national school

SOUTH Dublin County Council is due to make a decision later this month on two multi-classroom extensions for Divine Mercy Junior and Senior National School in Balgaddy, Lucan.

The application, which was submitted by the Boards of both the junior and senior schools, outlines plans for extensive work to the junior school, including the demolition of one courtyard block of eight classrooms, a general purpose hall and ancillary accommodation to pave the way for a new two-storey extension of the primary school.

The junior school extension will provide 15 classrooms, a junior general purpose room, a library, and a staff room, while exterior plans for 44 parking spaces, new bicycle stands, three junior play areas and the repositioning of the existing pedestrian crossing to Balgaddy Road form part of the proposal.

The senior school extension will provide eight new classrooms, a senior general purpose room, a library and special tuition rooms, while it is proposed that external works would include eight additional car parking spaces, new bicycle stands, four senior play areas and the removal of an existing bicycle lane.

There have been no third party objections to the application, which was first received by South Dublin County Council last September.

A decision on the application is due on January 27.
