April 2017 Sports Star of the Month – Ellen Walshe
TEMPLEOGUE swimmer Ellen Walshe turned in a tremendous performance at last month’s Irish Open Swimming Championships at the NAC.
The 15-year-old competitor won gold in 200 Butterfly, touching home in 2:16.43 which was under the consideration time for both the World and European Junior Championships.
She finished second in the 100m Butterfly – again her time of 1:01.60 leaving her under consideration for the European Juniors in Israel in July.
Not done there, she chalked up two bronze medals in 200 IM and 400 IM – the latter also being inside the European Junior QT – while she also won the Junior 200BC final.
This performance came hot on the heels of her impressive Leinster Long Course Championship display at the same venue where she carded wins in both the Girls 400m Individual Medley and 50m Butterfly.
And it is set to prove a very busy summer ahead for the talented young swimmer who will travel to Israel for the European Junior Championships running from June 28 to July 2.
And the following month she will be in action at the World Junior Championships.
