Cemetery headstone prices under scrutiny by council
South Dublin County Council are to review the price of headstones in their eight burial grounds. The news comes following a motion from Councillor Ruth Nolan at this week’s Lucan Area Committee meeting of SDCC.
Cllr Nolan told the council that she has had numerous complaints concerning the fee to erect a headstone at Esker Cemetery which currently costs €492.
The motion asked the committee “to agree to ask the council to reconsider this fee, with a view to reducing it.”
The council replied that “The application fee for a headstone permit, which is currently €490, is being reviewed in conjunction with the review of Burial Grounds currently taking place, and nearing completion.”
SDCC have eight cemeteries in the county, Bohernabreena, Esker, Saggart, Newcastle, Cruagh, Templeogue, Loughtown/ Brownstown and Colmanstown.
