Challenging time for students and staff in Tallaght campus

NEW and returning TU Dublin-Tallaght Campus students are settling into the start of a new academic year unlike any other, with lectures being delivered online while only some selected classes, like laboratories and practicals, are being held on campus.
The measures that have been implemented in the Tallaght campus to deal with the ongoing pandemic are part of wider measures that are also present in Technological University Dublin’s (TUD) two other campuses, in Blanchardstown and the city centre.

Explaining the preparations that were put in place in advance of the start of the academic year, Adrian Payne, the marketing and communications manager for the Tallaght campus, told The Echo: “At the end of the 2019-20 academic year, all students were invited to a live online meeting with the President of TU Dublin, Professor David FitzPatrick and then-President of the TU Dublin Students’ Union, Pierre Yimbog, during which the presidents briefed students on the Covid situation and invited their questions.
“Students also received emails at the end of July confirming the start of the new academic year.
“This was followed by a series of other communications to students, including an ezine that reminded all students about how to get online, register and access lectures, as well as how to access student services.
“TU Dublin is adhering to all restrictions put in place in relation to Level 3 of the Plan for Living with Covid-19.
“Accordingly, lectures are currently delivered online, with some practicals and labs sessions delivered on campus.”
In a statement that was released last month, in advance of the reopening of the campus on September 21, the college advised that necessary in-person classes will have safety measures, however they hope these lessons can be “conducted in as close to a normal manner as possible”.
Mr Payne added: “It is a challenging time for all the staff and students in TU Dublin, and we will continue to monitor the Covid situation and implement the appropriate measures when necessary.”
