Children lose hospital beds
According to the minutes of September’s board meeting, a decision was made to re-designate 22 beds in Beech Ward to the adult services, through the construction of a link bridge, at a cost of €600,000.
As previously reported on in The Echo, Beech Ward has not been fully opened for more than 18 months - with six of its beds being used for day patients on Monday to Friday and the remaining 16 closed or used for overflow.
Triona Murphy, Chair of Tallaght Hospital Action Group [THAG], told The Echo: “THAG is extremely annoyed over this.
“We’ve just seen that waiting lists nationally are getting longer and Tallaght tops the list and we’re cutting back on children’s services at a staggering cost.
“I understand that there is a big push to get waiting lists cleared and people off trolleys in the adult hospital but this can’t be done at the expense of the kiddies.”
